[Businessmtg] FW: Question Regarding Opening 3

Hi Anna,
Yes, the Secretary's assistant would be an official service position in ASP.
It would be an appointed service position, much like the Daily Chairs and Greeters are appointed service positions. Unlike the officer positions that are elected to the Steering Committee, the appointed have neither voice nor vote on the Steering Committee. The prerequisites are the same as the other appointed service positions.
This is not the same as eliminating one position and simply recreating it with another name. The new position would have similar duties to the current Web Master, although the way we have worded it the Secretary has flexibility regarding the duties of this position. And since the position is appointed instead of being elected, the process for filling the position is considerably simpler, and it provides another avenue of service for members of ASP to get involved in service without having to jump in with both feet into an Officer position.
Hugs,
Steve

Subject: [Businessmtg] Question Regarding Opening 3

Thanks everyone for their service in keeping ASP running, and Steve, for conducting this meeting. I have questions in response to :

“The gist of what we are recommending is that the Secretary absorb the duties
> of the Web Master position and delete the Web Master position. We are
> also recommending that the Secretary may appoint an assistant, who may
> be tasked with some of the Secretary's service work, in qualify as the
> ASP service prerequisite for eligibility to serve on the Steering
> Committee.“

Would the “appointed assistant” be a service member? Is this in itself going to be a whole other position? Will this person be a trusted servant? Will there be a time length to their position? Requirements? Will they be on the steering committee? Or is this just a random person selected by the current secretary at that time? I keep thinking : why do away with the current position to turn around and create a whole new one? Maybe I’m not understanding correctly.

Anna
