Subject: RE: [Businessmtg] Clarification Needed
Hello again Steve,
Thanks for the clarity, information, and answers to my questions.
4 points are much less confusing to digest an discuss.
I think I now understand the difference between appointed and elected as it concerns the SC. The Assistant Secretary will be qualified to sit on the SC but will not be elected to the SC.
I am in support of the suggestions of the SC regarding the Webmaster position being eliminated, the Secretary assuming the Webmaster duties, the Secretary being authorized to appoint an Assistant Secretary who will serve 1 year and qualify for serving on the SC.
One Day At a Time, One Step at a Time, One Topic at a time?
Thanks for your service,
Hugs, Jae

Hi Jae,
The only issue we are discussing today, is the one involving:
* Elimination of the Web Master position (FYI, the current Web Master's term has expired so this has no effect on her)
* Rolling the duties of the Web Master into the Secretary
* Allowing the Secretary to appoint an assist
* The Secretary's Assistant would be an official position with a 1-year term and qualify for serving as an elected officer on the Steering Committee.
Now to answer some of your questions. FYI, all of this is on the website.
We have two tiers of trusted servants at ASP.
1. Officers serving on the Steering Committee are the Board of Directors of ASP, must have a member of ASP for at least a year, must have served in a service position in ASP for at least a year, may NOT be a member of AA, serves for 3 years and are elected by the membership in a Business Meeting. Officer positions currently include List Administrator, Secretary, Greeter Chair, Treasurer, Web Master and Founders.
2. Appointed service positions are those appointed by an Officer, must have a member of ASP for at least 6 months, has no prerequisite service requirement, may be a member of AA, serves for 6 month (Daily Chairs) or 1 year (Greeters).
We are not discussing any other issues at this time, including any housekeeping issues at this time, although some housekeeping changes may be necessary, and therefore automatically done, depending on the outcome of this. For example, when motion is passed, there are housekeeping changes made on the website to record that motion, and possibly any other changes required by the motion.
Hugs,
Steve

Good afternoon Family,
First and foremost I want to thank all of you for your service.
We would not be here if you weren’t there!
The discussions have been informative.
I, however, have gotten lost in the details.
Please clarify,
During this week we are discussing
1. Housekeeping changes
2. Elimination of the Webmaster position 3. Changes in the Secretary’s responsibilities 4. Adding an official service position entitled Secretaries Assistant 5. The founders and their responsibilities 6. The addition of a Group Rep position
Addressing the discussion – Secretary/Webmaster I believe the following 7 items are in keeping with the suggestions of the SC. Am I correct?
1) The Secretary and Webmaster positions will be combined.
2) The Secretary is a member of the Steering Committee.
3) The Webmaster position as it now stands will be eliminated.
4) The Webmaster is currently a member of the Steering Committee.
5) The Secretary may (but does not have to ) appoint an assistant ( referred to as Assistant Secretary) who will take over the Webmasters current duties.
6) The Assistant Secretary will also be asked to record the Group Conscience of the Business Meeting. ( housekeeping change as referred to in the chart found on (https://tinyurl.com)
7) The Assistant Secretary position will be considered an official Service position.
8) The SC considers the Secretary’s Assistant an official Service position that counts towards serving on the Steering Committee.
9) The Assistant Secretary position will be a one year term.
My questions concerning Secretary/Webmaster are:
a. Addressing my assumption 8) Am I reading this correctly – The Secretary’s assistant will have a seat on the SC?
b. What are the official service positions that count towards serving on the Steering Committee?
c. Are the official service positions that count toward serving on the Steering Committee elected or appointed positions?
Addressing the discussion – The Founders I am in full support of the recommendations of the SC.
Addressing - The Group Rep.
I am in full support of the recommendations of the Sc.
Addressing – The housekeeping changes
Referring to ( https://tinyurl.com)
1) Has a consensus been reached on the suggestion to delete the word “core” from the recommended change to the 4th bullet under Business Meeting?
I question if business meeting has the right to make changes to #4 based on the discovery of the error made, as I understand this, in 2006 and carried forward.
2) Is it necessary to correct the error before we move forward?
I need more information about how deleting the word core changes what has been described as “the clearly defined requirements to change Founding and Core Policies as 75% of the full membership of ASP”.
3) Under what circumstances does a vote of 75% of membership apply?
4) Under what circumstances does “Changes to ASP(core) policies require 2/3 majority of subscribed membership of the Business Committee apply?
As I stated above
I am in full support of adding a GR position as described by the SC.
In my opinion –
ASP members are a vital part of the voice of Al-Anon. What we do at a group level sets the policy for Al-Anon worldwide. WSO does not govern us, they are our trusted servants – they follow the voice of a loving God as He may express Himself in our group conscience. The GR is the first link in the communication network between ASP and WSO. Because of our GR, our voice will be heard through the service levels all the way to the World Service Committee.
Creating a GR position is our first step in becoming a contributing member in the outreach programs of Al-Anon Worldwide. As the Al-Anon Declaration says, “ I am responsible, I want the hand of Al-Anon and Alateen to always be there. And for that I am responsible.” If the World Service Committee is the hand of Al-Anon, ASP’s GR will be the voice of the HP of all the members of ASP.
Establishing a GR position is in keeping with out Tradition 5- helping the families of Alcoholics by practicing the 12th step of Al-Anon.
Again thank you all for your ESH and for your Service.
Hugs In Service, Jae
