[Businessmtg] Founders' Positions Defined

Biz-Pals,

(Just back from the woods)

I want to jump in early on this. I'm totally in alignment with the SC's suggested authorizations for our two Founder positions as presented. If I were to pick two people I would most trust to fill these seats as this proposal suggests, and assure ASP's future with their voice, vote, and assistance it would be Steve and Anne and other members of their ilk should either step aside.

A story:
While I was ASP's List administrator there were a number of occasions when there was necessary work to be done promptly which weren't in my wheelhouse or were unwieldy if done according to existing authorizations. I asked other SC members for help outside of their assigned duties, but - this is the important part - I was not specifically authorized to do so despite the tasks needing to be done, and by someone who could do the tasks well without undue supervision.
I turned to those whose ASP knowledge and experience I could rely on: Our Founder and the person now holding our second Founder seat. Out of necessity I "authorized" them to do work though I didn't have the official right to do so. In one case it made adding members easier. In another, after our website content had been rewritten in important parts without approvals, to research and return it to its originally approved form and intent.

Whether large or small, some tasks need to be done with the active help of others and this proposal makes asking for that help and assistance official. The only tweak I would make would be to redefine our Founder positions as those with the longest experience on our Steering Committee or in our Business Meetings, not merely having just the longest continuous membership in ASP. We once had a period when the second most senior ASP member had little or no ASP business experience and no inclination to serve. (But however important that may be it's a bit off topic and perhaps for another day.)

As long as the Steering Committee and the Business Meeting stay in the loop I see nothing but advantages to being able to seek direct input and assistance from our Founders.

I propose, should a consensus be reached on this point, that this September Business Meeting be extended to allow for a Motion including all Motion 4 changes, and to have sufficient time to conclude a vote should a Second then be received.

In service,
Jerry H.
