Hi Linda and everyone else,
Kelley's numbers only show the number of new members coming into ASP during
those months.
There are many other metrics that we should look at before drawing any
conclusions.
For example, what is not reflected is the number of members leaving.
Unfortunately, arriving at those numbers isn't as easy as it is tabulating
how many new members the Greeters processed during the month. It could be
done by parsing the hundreds of email messages the server sends out during
the month - possible but IMHO not worth the effort.
The other technique is much easier. That's reporting the number of members
in ASP. As of today, that is 966. What I can tell you is that I recall we
had just over 1,000 in January (1001??) and something like 997 in February,
and slightly less in March. And so on.
In other words, the membership of ASP has been declining slowly since the
face-to-face meetings started reopening.
Does that mean that ASP is actually in decline? Maybe and maybe not.
Decline from what? From an inflated membership? Probably. During the
early months of the pandemic, I recall an insane number of members joining
ASP. The Greeters were working overtime.
Another factor affecting our membership is the marked change in face-to-face
meetings as MANY of them adopted an electronic format (think Zoom) during
the pandemic and MANY of those continue their electronic component even
after returning to the face-to-face format. They are being referred to as
"hybrid meetings", and it appears that WSO is registering many of them as
separate meetings. WSO reported in the CMA Connects Forum that they had
registered over 500 "new" electronic groups in last December alone. Which
raises the question of some meetings having more than one voice/vote in the
service structure.
Another metric worth looking at is the number of shares/month, or per/day.
June 1,303 shares 43.4/day
May 1,357 43.8/day

Thank you, Kelley.
I always found our numbers to be interesting. There was such a large
influx during the COVID shutdown that I am grateful this venue was
available to so many who did take advantage of it. I hope the slowdown
now only indicates that people are returning to their face-to-face
meetings, and that we still continue to grow.
Hugs, Linda
