I'm in agreement with pretty much all that's been said about the Prudent
Reserve.
Anne's report and recommendation for the prudent reserve amount sounds
right on to me. Thanks, Anne, for doing this service for all of us. I
appreciate your work and research to make the numbers as accurate as
possible.
I think the prudent reserve should remain at one year's expenses because we
have expenses that are paid annually. It just seems like an easier way to
do it and it will keep us safer if something catastrophic does happen.
Setting aside 1/4 of our annual expenses won't be much of a cushion when
the annual bills come due.
I also think it would be a good idea to word our decision as "1 year's
expenses" rather than a specific dollar amount. Our treasurer is a trusted
servant who is perfectly capable of calculating the exact dollar amount.
As for funds beyond the Prudent Reserve, 60% to District, 30% to Area and
10% to WSO sounds right to me. Until we have a district, I also think 90%
to the new Area sounds good to me. It will help the Area with start-up
costs while we're waiting for a District to materialize.
I do have a question if it's not too late.
How and when is the Prudent Reserve amount assessed and donations sent to
WSO? Does it happen any time our balance exceeds the Prudent Reserve? Or
is there a specific date each year?
