Hi Friends,
I continue to get updates from the Area officers including some of the
feedback they have gathered from the GR's. I had shared earlier that I was
asked to put forth my ideas related to the District design for our
electronic meetings. My input in August was that I was not in favor of
geographic area because as an email meeting, we are one of many electronic
formats that can support a global membership. I know that as the GR, I
ultimately will be the one to weigh in, vote and share my considerations
with the GEA, however, in order to best support the group, your input is
invaluable.
The following was shared with me today, and I was asked to share it with you
and I am looking forward to hearing from all of you.

________
Global Electronic Area (GEA) will decide to form Districts.
DISTRICTS: (pgs 64 - 65 of our 2022 - 2025 Service Manual).
The District is the first link from the groups to the Area, the WSO, and the
World Service Conference. Districts are comprised of a number of groups
within a geographical or non-geographical part of an Area that meet as
needed. The Group Representatives (GRs) from the groups in the District,
attend the District meetings to represent their group. An Overlay District
is a collection of groups typically aligned by a commonality, such as
language or non-geographic location. Groups may belong to either the
District or Overlay District based on their group conscience. Decisions may
be made on holding local functions doing local outreach, and news will be
disseminated to and from the groups.
Moving forward there is much for our GEA to consider when forming Districts.
For example, our GEA does not have geographic boundaries. Our boundaries
could be considered: Time, Language, Platform. We know that one of our
District Representatives (DRs) responsibilities is to visit each group in
their respective District; however, Zoom has approximately 524 groups, phone
meetings 160, etc. Far too many for one DR so our task is to figure out how
to make this work! Another thought to consider was brought to us by a
trusted servant of our email meetings (there are 23 email meetings). Those
members are not concerned with time but they are concerned with language.
Here is a breakdown of our Platform meetings: Skype 30, Bulletin Board 5,
Phone 160, Google Meet 3, Zoom 524, Discord, 3 Email 23, Al-Anon Family
Groups Mobile App 36, ChatRoom 4, Free Conference Call 29, Second Life 1,
WhatsApp 8, Jitsi 4, Voxer 1, Telegram 2, join.me <http://join.me> 1.
*Approximate figures.
