[Businessmtg] Business Meeting - Service Positions

   Hi Business Friends,

   I'm in agreement with trying to encourage service by shortening the
   length of time in the program before being allowed to take a position.
   Service is part of our growth and recovery and everyone has to start
   somewhere.  I particularly like allowing Al-Anon time in other groups
   to count.


   In addition, I would like to say that a very long time ago, I did serve
   in the 6 month position on the Steering Committee.  I don't recall
   being asked to do anything or even be in any meetings.  I do recall
   being told at the end of that time that `we' weren't doing our jobs.
   It was a rather chaotic time behind the scenes, and in seeing how the
   Steering Committee operates today, I agree - `we' (or I) weren't doing
   our jobs.  In my case, I honestly say because I didn't understand the
   job I was supposed to be doing.


   So, perhaps more clarity - keep it simple - in what is expected from a
   service position?

   Personally, I do find a 3 year commitment intimidating at this time in
   my life, but that is a personal problem, I don't think it's a group
   problem.  Some positions really do require that.


   And having said all that, I would like to add that at this time, I have
   no problem in offering to serve one of the 6 month terms on the
   Steering Committee (if appropriate).  I think that is an excellent way
   to get one's feet wet and learn what's it's all about and either
   continue after that, or not.
