Lynne, Thanks for your summary and service. 

 I’m in favor of reducing the from 1 year to 6 months of previous ASP service as long as the individual also has other Al-Anon service from different sources. 

I don’t necessarily believe that attending business meetings prepares one for serving on the steering committee, but I would not be opposed to “giving credit” for attending. 

I don’t think that a three year commitment is too long for a SC commitment for LA, Treasurer, and Secretary. It takes a while to set up these positions with a new person and learn the position. I think the 1 year for at-large would work well and also provide additional service time for other SC positions. 

ASP service  is different from any other service position I’ve held in Al-Anon. A commitment and understanding of the Traditions and Concepts is essential (especially principles above personalities). Prior ASP service at least prepares the potential SC member with some idea about method of ASP communication. I’m opposed to lowering the requirements without prior backup Al-Anon service experience from somewhere other than ASP. 

As for Jerry’s idea of putting a time limit on the reduction of requirements, I’m not opposed to that. I think it would be good have trigger that puts the reduction in place and a trigger that rescinds longer service requirements. Perhaps when two major positions are vacant reduce requirements.
