Hi everyone,
I am the acting Secretary. Some of the later agenda items will address
ways that we can hopefully help fill the vacant positions on the
Steering Committee (so that is not for discussion now), including the
Secretary. I will gladly, gladly help to train any newly elected
Secretary!!! As mentioned before, there is so much support available on
the steering committee for newly elected trusted servants!!! So if you
have any questions about the position, please let me know.
There are 3 main parts to the Secretary's job.
1. Managing the Daily Chairs. Our daily chairs are amazing and doing a
fantastic job and I've had to do very little since getting them set up
in early January. This is mainly a twice a year job - recruiting and
training the daily chairs in December and June.
2. Managing the Website. We are lucky to have a recording secretary,
Betsy, who is doing a wonderful job! She does the routine updates to the
website - i.e. the changing of the daily chairs, updating the ASP
register, updating any new motions on the group conscience page, etc.
However, the steering committee wanted to edit the Tradition 7
(https://asp-afg.org/members/tradition-7/) and How we handle money
webpages (https://asp-afg.org/members/money-handling/) and Betsy just
finished updating those two websites. Please join me in thanking Betsy
for her service!!
The steering committee unanimously agreed on the new language on these
pages that reflect the new procedures from motion 24 and from
incorporation of ASP. The steering committee will be gradually going
through the website and deciding to update things that are out of date
or consolidating as appropriate. I would like to emphasize that no
changes will be made to the website without the unanimous agreement of
the steering committee.
3. Chairing the Business Meeting. This is by far the hardest part of the
secretary position in my opinion and last month's business meeting had a
lot of learning involved! I am a very results-oriented person and the
biggest lesson was something I had read lots of times on the KBDM page
of the ASP website (https://asp-afg.org/members/kbdm/), but had not
really digested fully. And that is "It is important to remember that the
decision isn't as important as the discussion. KBDM requires new
thinking. The purpose of the KBDM is to build consensus!" I think it is
important for us all to remember that the discussion is the focus and
that talking through the Al anon principles involved is important. This
is an example of service leading to personal growth and I am grateful
for this opportunity.
Hugs,
Lynne
