Hi everyone,

I suspect the founders and SC will answer the questions posed by Tori 's
email. I wasn't around when those decisions were made. For me, I believe
the prior experience requirements serve us well as an online group. There
are inherent differences in online and f2f recruitment and training. In
person, if the brand new person is tasked with something and next week
decides the program/meeting isn't a fit for them, someone else can step in
quickly. In online format, different time zones and countries all play a
part. It takes time to find and train someone to fill a position. Thus,
ensuring the position is filled by someone who's gotten their feet wet and
chose to stick around keeps consistency and avoids unpleasant surprises.

I think you may have some confusion regarding the levels of service
positions, elected versus appointed, and the time in ASP requirements for
each. The business section of ASP's website details these and there's a
link at the bottom of all ASP emails.

To summarize, the Greeter Chair and Secretary (resumes currently submitted
for review) are elected by the business meeting and serve on the Steering
Committee for 3 years. They currently require 1 year prior ASP service in
an appointed role such as daily greeter, daily chairperson or recording
secretary. The 1 year prior service is another topic being discussed by
the BM- see archives.

Daily chairs, greeters, and recording secretary are appointed by the
Steering Committee member to whom they report. Those are 6 months to one
year positions and require 6 months active membership in ASP- sharing in
recovery meetings. Again, as an online group it takes more time to get to
know one another. For me the 6 month period is a safety measure to keep ASP
from being watered down or corrupted by influences that don't align with
our current group conscience decisions.

The opinions on why we have time requirements are my own, and why they
apply to me personally. I don't mean to step on SC members toes. I also
realize this whole topic better fits into our discussion of changing the
prior requirements for the SC, and this week we're reviewing resumes of
people who meet the current requirements. I felt it important for Tori to
understand a bit more to make an informed decision when we vote and chose
to veer off topic for that reason.

Hugs,
Marilyn
