I fully support lowering the requirements to apply for a position on the Steering Committee to one year of ASP membership, with 6 months of that time in an appointed service position and that anyone meeting those requirements may apply for an open position on the Steering Committee.   I also support the Steering Committee's continued prerogative to wave fully meeting those requirements for candidates that they believe should be recommended the group for consideration, on a case-by-case basis.

Under the current requirements, as I understand them, the shortest period for someone to be eligible to apply would be a year and half.   This could only be accomplished by perfect timing on entering the group and qualifying for and being accepted into appointed service positions.   The more likely time frame is much longer.  No wonder we don't have qualified candidates stepping up.  It's a long slog to be eligible to apply.

Things like previous Al-Anon service and participation in ASP business meetings will be on candidate applications so that they can be considered by the voting members.
