Hello everyone,
I am keeping track of a few measures of our membership and share them
every meeting. This information can be useful in seeing the health of
ASP and to spot any significant movements up or down. Here are some
graphs:
1. The number of members at ASP as of October 31, 2023 is 866.

2. The number of people who unsubscribe each month.

3. The number of unique people who share each month.

4. The number of shares/day (the total shares per month divided by the
number of days in the month). This is the only one I can easily gather
historical numbers on, so this goes back to January 2019. This starts at
January 2019 (1/19) then goes to January 2020 (1/20), etc. each dot is
one month in the year. The last 2 dots on the right are July and August
2023.

A few things I see from this data. First, we are slowly losing members
and most of that is driven by the lack of new members subscribing.
You'll note that the # of people unsubscribing has fallen off recently,
but that tracks with a drop in the # of people subscribing. I don't have
data on this, but my impression is that a lot of people who join
unsubscribe relatively quickly. Second, while there are 866 members
subscribed, only about 120 share in any given month. There could also be
many more that read the shares. Third, even though our overall number of
members has fallen, the # of people who share every month and the
average # of shares, which I think are the most important metrics to the
health of ASP, have been pretty consistent.
It has been over 3 years since Steve, as List Administrator, did the
last purge of inactive members. I am considering doing this in January
or February next year. What this entails is sending several emails over
a period of weeks to all members asking them to simply reply to the
email to keep their subscription active. And those that don't reply will
be unsubscribed.
Please let me know if there are any other metrics that you would find
useful to keep track of over time or any questions about the ones I
shared. Otherwise, things were pretty quiet and routine the last couple
months from the list administrator perspective.
Hugs,
Lynne
