Biz-Pals,

Having seen a few emergencies in my Al-Anon service positions and recognizing that quick actions are sometimes necessary, awaiting a Business Meeting that is up to two months away to make decisions wouldn't work in every situation.

Currently the only official solution ASP has for quick decisions is the List Administrator's authority to make autonomous decisions "when needed", a potentially subjective method. Practically, the LA would likely consult with other Steering Committee members if there's time. In this case they would be acting as an Executive Committee, something this BM might consider creating and authorizing rather than leaving quick responses to our LA's alone. Any LA actions (or Executive Committee decisions if we had one) would then be reported to the next BM for approval or further action as necessary.

This current motion is a good step toward getting the Business Meeting into the loop when and if the new quarterly BM schedule doesn't work on those rare occasions when speed and wider input are both necessary or preferred. I approve.

I'd like a formal approval of an Executive Committee authorized to make decisions when speed is necessary, too, rather than having this authority in the hands of our LA's alone. That's one for future consideration. For now this motion works.
