Hi Linda,
I don't know if there is an easy answer to your question. In Krissy's
case, her circumstances changed after taking on the Secretary position
and it was no longer a fit for her. Life does happen. However, I know
that there has been a lot of turnover in Steering Committee in the
recent past and I don't know if there is one answer for that or if a lot
of factors have contributed. Hopefully Steve and Anne (and others) can
chime in with their thoughts.
For the Secretary position specifically, it is a fair bit of work when
you are just starting out and can be a little overwhelming, especially
if the new Secretary starts right when a new batch of daily chairs is
being recruited. And running the first BM can be challenging, especially
if there is the possibility of voting on a motion as the KBDM process
takes time to really understand and get used to how to implement it in a
BM. However, once you get the swing of how things work, then it becomes
quite manageable - in my experience at least. The steering committee
does provide guidance and training, although I'm sure we could always
improve there. We could also be clearer with potential volunteers that
there is a learning curve and that it will take more time in the
beginning to get the hang of the position. I think a certain amount of
computer literacy is required, but most of it can be learned pretty
easily.
Hugs,
Lynne
