Hello all,
I apologize for my late reply to the topics at hand. Continued kudos to the
steering committee members and the recording secretary for your hard work
and reports.
While I understand that there are policies in place for ASP business, it
seems as though some of them may no longer be serving the group well,
perhaps they should be subjects at future business meetings.
- *Business not discussed on the ASP thread. *Interestingly, a few of us
have shared on ASP meeting topics about our participation in the business
meetings, perhaps they will spark some interest. However, due to the great
need for more trusted servants, at least a few times a year, perhaps it
would be prudent to apprise the general membership of all the work that
goes on behind the scenes and that their participation by giving 7th
tradition funds and SERVICE is paramount to the meetings future success. It
doesn't need to be lengthy or super frequent.
- *Use of the 6 month service positions*. It seems that perhaps bringing
in members to be of service for the shorter general stints, would expose
them to the work of the steering committee and perhaps then they could be
persuaded or may have genuine interest in taking on a more important role.
I understand that in the short term, it doesn't lighten the load for the
steering committee, playing the long game, it may! I would hope that anyone
volunteering in this capacity would be given consideration. The recording
secretary position is one that is not on the SC, but she's doing great
work!
- *KBDM - *I understand the use of the process vs. the formality of
Roberts Rules, but it seems especially new secretaries struggle with the
concept and how/when to proceed. Someone else on this BM suggested the
founders take on this role instead. That sounds to me like a good idea, as
honestly it seems only you all know how best to monitor it! I've been on a
least a dozen now and I still don't truly understand how to determine
consensus. I think it feels like a lot of discussion, we get close to
resolution to move on to a motion and we've run out of time.I for one find
that really frustrating, especially for topics that seem simple, like
adding the Al-Anon declaration to one or more meeting readings. After
watching the process for a while, then perhaps the secretary elect would
feel comfortable to lead with close coaching.
- Finally, I am glad to see Krissy has not left the ASP meeting. Some
stay post resignation, while others leave and don't return, which I find
disheartening. I tried to give her a lot of praise while she was running
the business meeting and learning the ropes. I hope she feels good about
her service, even though it was short. Life happens to everyone; we cannot
know what tomorrow may bring.
Thanks for hearing me out. This is a great meeting. I at least read from it
daily, and share when I'm able. I truly feel that the business meeting this
month especially feels gratitude for the steering
committee/trusted servants and is sincerely concerned about the long term
effects on the meeting due to the lack of those stepping up for service.
❤ Missy
