Hi folks,

The Steering Committee has reached what I will call a tentative solution. By that, I mean that not all of us are 100% on board with it, and we are not 100% certain that we can succeed in implementing it. Since, I’m the primary promoter of this hopeful solution, that’s why you’re having so much fun reading my presentation on the issue. 😊

The gist of the “solution” is this:

1.	Assign Titles & Duties to the two at-large positions on the Steering Committee mentioned in ASP’s Founding Policies <https://asp-afg.org/members/founding_policy/> .

“The Steering Committee is composed of all elected officers, . . . and two general members of A Serenity Place.

2.	These two at-large positions have existed in theory since ASP’s founding in May 1996. However, they have only been filled on three occasions in late 2016 to early 2017.
3.	Historically, we have considered the two at-large SC positions as:

a.	Having a 6-month rotation
b.	Not having any duties or responsibilities of any kind.

4.	The suggestion is simple:

a.	Designate one at-large SC member as the Alternate CMA
b.	Designate one at-large SC member as the Alternate GR

5.	This would give each of these positions duties and responsibilities in addition to the basic experience of serving on the Steering Committee.

a.	My suggestion is that the term of office be 1 year.
b.	Yes, the requirements to serve in these positions would be identical to any other position on the Steering Committee.

6.	Implementation

a.	The GR position was created when the WSC decided to designate electronic meetings as groups. We updated ASP’s service structure with Motion 22, which also updated a few other things.
b.	Creating an Alternate GR would require what I believe is a minor edit of Motion 22 because it is not a substantive change to how ASP operates, though it is more than a housekeeping issue.
c.	The postal Current Mailing Address has existed in fact since long before ASP was founded. It is only recently that the CMA issue has become complicated.
d.	Creating an Alternate CMA is similar to creating an Alternate GR, yada yada.

                                                    i. However, in ASP’s case, the Alternate CMA would be the participant on the CMA Forum and the member attending events where the CMAs are invited, and the Current Mailing Address would be relegated to the POSTAL CMA and backup to the Alternate. Yeah, I know that’s backasswards, but I’m trying to deal with what we’ve got. :-)

e.	Implementing both of these at the ASP group level is easy, if adopted. Simply update our website accordingly.
f.	Implementing the Alternate GR at with the GEA & WSO Group Records should be easy – just execute a form updating the position.
g.	Implementing the Alternate CMA position SHOULD also be easy, however I suspect we will encounter push back from WSO and/or the GEA.

                                                    i. However, if we do experience push back from WSO/GEA, their resistance could also be used as push back for their treatment of the CMA as a service position far beyond the scope of the CMA in the Service Manual.

ii. Personally, it doesn’t matter to me which way that went; allow for an Alternate CMA or disband the CMA Forum and stop stepping on the toes of GRs by treating CMAs as if they were GRs.

iii. In the meantime, my thinking is that we would update our CMA data with the GEA and WSO in a manner that facilitated ASP having 2 members with access to whatever the WSO/GEA throws at the CMA.

I believe the line is “That’s my story and I’m sticking to it.” The ball is now in play and we’re looking forward to a discussion on the topic of delegating the jobs of Alternate GR and Alternate CMA to the two existing at large positions on the Steering Committee.

Love and SERENITY,

Steve
