Hi Marilyn,

Hypothetically, we'd have a programmer on the SC that was itching to re-write the Mailman software that ASP uses so that it would do all the things that we'd like it to do, complete with a web interface for our members . . . oh, and walk the dog, too. I just checked, and none of my 3 dogs, Bryce, Piper & Marshal Dillon know anything about computers other than how to hit the paws button. 😊

Which brings us to how we could configure Mailman to host 7 SEPARATE Daily Meetings vs. our current all week meeting. Based on what we know how to do, we would. . .
1. Create 7 new separate mailing lists, one for each day of the week.
2. Migrate our current members to the new mailing lists of their choice. Members would be able to subscribe to any one or more of the mailing lists. This phase is a one-time project.
3. New members would have similar choices when joining ASP, along with the possibility of subscribing to a special Newcomers list.
    a. Greeters would work with new members and assist them with their selection.
    b. Greeters would then submit new members to the Server, followed by the Greeter Chair approving the new subscriptions.
4. Unsubscribing from a list. Members would have the same ability to unsubscribe that they have now.
5. Adding a new Daily Meeting subscription - we could set this up one of two ways, both start with the Members going to with simple directions on how to unsubscribe or subscribe to the various Daily Meetings, then . . .
    a. The webpage directs the member to submit their email address to the Server for the Daily Meeting(s) of their choice. This results in the same thing as the Greeter do currently - posting an email request on the server, which is subsequently approved by the Greeter Chair as she does now on her daily rounds
OR
    b. The webpage directs the member to submit their request directly to the Greeters/Greeter Chair, which then handle the admin side of changing the member's subscription.

All in all, this would amount to an increase in the server workload, however, it would still be far less than when we had individual Greeters processing several new members each day - some Greeters processed over 20 new members in a month.

Love and SERENITY,
Steve

Question to Steve: Hypothetically speaking, if ASP were divided into 7 daily meetings, would it be possible to update the website so that existing members could change their subscription options on their own?

I'm picturing a checklist of the 7 days of the week. I currently subscribe to all days, but I decide that I never have time to read Wednesdays, so I want to unsubscribe from that day. I go to the ASP members website and uncheck Wednesday. Six months down the road, I decide I want to focus on Traditions and Concepts, I go back to the website and add in the Wednesday meetings, without having to involve the LA.

Thus, an announcement to the recovery meeting that the options now exist and allow them to to make their choices without having to spend 30 days of the SC assisting them in the changes.

Just a thought,
Marilyn
