TREASUER’S COMMENTS:
* Donations have fallen this year. Lest anyone go down the path thinking that this might be a result of the recent server purge, please note the following donations by month:
January $90, February $30, March $173, April $350, May $75, June $79.
FYI, ASP's expenses total $133/month, so it is obvious that our ordinary donations do not support our expenses.
* Donation numbers have fallen; both the number of members donating and the total amount:
2023: 38 members made 69 donations totaling $ 2,426
4.2% of ASP members donate to the 7th Tradition
15 members donated more than once last year
7 donations/month totaling $ 202/month average.
2024: 17 members made 25 donations total $797
6.2% of ASP members donate to the 7th Tradition → 93.8% of ASP members are not supporting ASP financially.
5 members have donated more than once this year
4.2 donations/month totaling $133/month
* Donation Methods.
PayPal donations were $1751 in 2023; $146/month. PayPal donations in 2024 are $797 so far this year; $133/month, an 8% drop.
Other donations (check, cash, money order) were $675 in 2023 but have vanished completely in 2024.
The recent purge of the mailing list on the server could serve as at least a partial explanation for the 8% drop in PayPal donations, however that does not explain the complete loss of paper donations this year as about half of those members donating via paper are still active members of ASP.
In 2023, 72% of our donations were received via PayPal, 24% via check and 3% cash. So far in 2024, 100% of our donations have been via PayPal.
* As an official old fart, it would be easy for me to dismiss the lack of donations off as a society-wide problem stemming from the belief many have in a "free lunch". However, my personal experience is that this has long been an issue in Al-Anon since I've got here 40+ years ago.
* Regular Contributors
Those members that do contribute to the 7th Tradition basket, do so regularly, or at least repeatedly. At least one member donates monthly, while some donate periodically, while a few members make large donations annually. What I see very little of is donations from members that have not donated previously.
Please note that the high level of donations in April was the result of two members; one donated $100 and the other $200. Both of these members made similar donations last year, and there are two other members that have historically made similar donations annually. FYI, there are two additional members that have made substantial donations in the past and are still active in ASP. None the less, the fact remains that aside from the extraordinary donations of a few members, the general membership of ASP is not supporting ASP financially.
* The majority of our PayPal donations are made closely after the Seventh Tradition basket is passed.
* The Executive Summary. Donations are down and generally below our monthly expenses. In an attempt to improve our monthly cash flows, I am planning on passing the Seventh Tradition basket more often than our practice of once a month. Additionally, I am considering posting some of these observations with the passing of the basket in an effort to (a) inform the general membership of ASP, and (b) hopefully spur some of them that have not donated previously.
Love and SERENITY,
Steve
