Good Morning,
The district has not meant since August. I have suggested that the district
establish an account for collecting funds, but there has been little
interest from the only 4 GRs that attend these meetings so at this time
there is no accounting in place. I have also offered to share our Zoom
account for the District business meetings that are scheduled the first
Saturday of the month. That also was declined in favor of using one of the
GRs personal accounts. I will raise it again when we meet in November and
then wait for the next round of GRs to step forward to see how the dynamic
of the group changes. Each of the GRs that attend have indicated they will
not continue as GRs once the year ends. I don't know what our DRs plans are
at the end of the year either, she may also be planning to step down..
So, what I might suggest is that we take a different approach. Provide the
district with a statement re: the amount we are contributing and then have
our DR submit receipts for reimbursement?
Hugs,
Anne

Hi Lynne,
Regarding the Liabilities line in the Balance Sheet. This indicates
liabilities payable in the future. A Balance Sheet is an instant snap shot
of the assets and liabilities of an organization at a specific point in
time. If I had made donations to the GEA and WSO during the reporting
period, then those donations would have shown as expenses in the Income and
Expense Statement, and since those funds would have been spent, they would
not show as Assets or Liabilities in the Balance Sheet.
Theoretically, we make donations to the other service entities on a
quarterly basis. However, in consideration of our declining membership, and
our declining donation receipts (donations were less than expenses in the
first six months of 2024) we did not make any donations to the GEA or WSO in
the reporting period. As I noted in my report this BM, virtually all of our
current funds in excess of our Prudent Reserve are the result of unusually
generous donations from just six members.
We don't have any placeholders in our finances; at least not at this time.
A placeholder would be an amount placed as a line time for an anticipated
future expense.
As for the District being able to accept donations yet. . . that's a
question that Anne can answer better than I can. We do know that our DR has
expenses, or should have expenses that the District should take
responsibility for. For those that weren't aware of it, Angel our District
Rep lives in South Africa while most if not all of the other GRs in the
District live in the USA. This creates significant difficulties for Angel
to communicate effectively with the GRs in our District. Personally, I
would like to see the District address this issue head-on so that ASP could
do our part by supporting District 53 financially so that Angel could do her
job.
Love and SERENITY,
Steve

Steve, thanks so much for this! In the balance sheet on the Liabilities,
have you already made the donations to GEA and WSO of the funds over the
prudent reserve? Or is that a placeholder? How often do you make those
donations? And is the district set up to receive donations yet?
Hugs,
Lynne
