I had never thought of the points that Anna and Linda has shared here. They
do seem valid to me, though personally I would like to read my past shares
to see how far I have grown. But I will definitely think on them.
Thank you
Much Love n peace
Hugs
Usha

Hi Business Friends,
Since I was the person originally requesting this agenda item, I would like
to express my thoughts on the current discussion.
First, I won't pretend to speak about the technical issues as I am totally
unskilled and not knowledgeable in that area. However, I think I
understood 2 options - please correct me if I'm wrong.
1/ Can delete all old shares and start over with option to delete after
specified time period
Or
2/ Delete all and turn off archiving option.
If the above is accurate, it would seen to me that deleting old archives
and starting new with 30 day retention (or whatever) would allow the
Steering Committee and List Administrator to do whatever monitoring they
deem necessary and would allow those few members who use the archives to
catch up to continue to do so.
One reason I am opposed to archiving is the anonymity of the program.
Saving my shares for others to read indefinitely is not the way I
understand Al-Anon works.
If I want my shares or my story available in print, I can write to the
Forum which is CAL. Often a request comes out from WSO for people to share
their ESH fora new CAL publication being planned.
If I want my shares recorded, there are Al-Anon members who speak and
travel and share their recovery and the recordings are available for
purchase or online, all with their knowledge and permission.
Both the above are good gifts of service and Step 12 work.
Traditions 11 and 12 are addressed here also.
If I want to know more about a person in ASP, I can reply or email them
directly and privately without going to archives without their knowledge.
I have made several close Al-Anon friendships in ASP directly with the
person. Some have contacted me and some I have initiated the contact.
Very similar to reaching out to someone after a f2f meeting - all out in
the open.
Personally, I have no desire to search archives to see what I said here in
2006. I know I've come a long way since then and I know I have more to do
today to continue to move forward. Looking backward at old shares, I'm
sure I broke my AA person's anonymity which I do not do today. I'm also
sure I spewed more criticism and complaints than ESH which I try to focus
on now.
In regard to ASP having no control over how members use email shares, I
would add the same holds true for f2f meetings, zoom meetings, phone
meetings. This is a program of trust in following the principles and
Traditions by humans.
What we hear here, supposedly stays here.
I have way too much more to say and have already talked too long. Thank
you for hearing me.
Hugs, Linda
