The solution to this problem that I believe is most in keeping with Al-Anon principles and best practices would be for the personal daily share archive to be deleted and no new shares added going forward.
However, I understand that there are some other viewpoints on the value of keeping this archive. My responses to these concerns:
1. The monthly reports are quite interesting and informative but are not necessary. ASP existed for many years without these reports.
1. The ability for the List Administrator to track problem shares. I have no direct knowledge of this function and cannot address its importance or difficulty.
1. The need for some members to use the archive daily because of problems with their personal email accounts. The inability of individuals to set up workable email accounts is not a valid reason for compromising the anonymity and comfort level of other members.
1. If it isn't already noted, our promotional and welcome materials should indicate that members must keep an active workable email to participate fully on an ongoing basis. Anyone now participating only via the archive, needs to be notified of the need to find another solution with a short delay before access is cutoff.
2. Free email accounts are readily available and easily set up on computers, phones, or tablets with internet access. If they are accessing the archive, they must already have some technology skills and a source of internet access. The personnel at many libraries will confidentially assist patrons with issues like setting up a free email account.
I believe the suggestion that the archive be password protected with only steering committee members having those passwords is a possible compromise. I am willing to consider a carefully worded motion that addresses this solution.
Thanks for considering my points of view.
Margaret G.
