[Businessmtg] archive retention

I have attended the previous meetings where this topic has been discussed. I am in agreement with the ideas presented in many of the shares of others who have voiced the opinion to discontinue the archive. i.e. Jerry's and Linda H's recent shares. There are a few points that I would like to restate from my previous shares on this topic along with some questions that I have.

I realize that anything that I post on the internet in any form at any time is vulnerable in many different ways. I'm also aware that anyone who receives my ASP shares can keep them, if they choose. These two things are within the nature of online activity. However, I feel that a permanent archive of shares maintained by the group is not in keeping with Al-Anon principles of anonymity. It is easily subject to misuse in many different ways including leading to dominance and control within the group. CAL is where newcomers and old-timers alike can find a wealth of material when they need more clarification on a particular subject. If we could keep an archive for a short period of time before being able to delete it, that might allow for any immediate administrative issues to be resolved and long-term anonymity to be better preserved.

My questions are:
Do we know how other email groups handle this issue?
How often is the archive accessed by our trusted servants? For what purposes?
How often is it accessed by general membership? Is there a way to tell who has accessed it?
Have we considered a different server that will give our LA more control over correcting the type of problems that have cropped up recently and make the archive more flexible, user-friendly, and searchable, if we decide to keep any part of it?

Thank you for reading.

Margaret G.
