Hi folks,
I would like to share my ESH regarding my position as Greeter Chair. My
prior experience in a role at ASP entailed being a greeter.
I was new to service in the role that held a position on the Steering
Committee. I was nervous and excited all at the same time. Members of
the SC had many years of experience and I had none. When I first took on
the role, we were having business meetings every other month, which meant
that we met on the off month to discuss the BM agenda and any other
important business. There were many times when my opinion was that I had
"no opinion" because I didn't have enough information about the subject or
wasn't knowledgeable enough to give an opinion. Shortly after I joined the
ranks, we transitioned to quarterly business meetings. That being said,
meant 4 BM meetings per year. The SC would meet by zoom at a time
convenient for everyone one month before the business meeting and as time
went on I felt more and more comfortable. I felt more comfortable asking
questions and with each meeting I was growing. In fact, today, I look
forward to our meetings. And I still have questions.
The duties of the Greeter Chair is to solicit for Greeters 1 time per
year. I do that in April and they begin in May. We used to have 3
greeters but the last 2 years have been very slow and 2 has been
sufficient. The end of April I send out the directions on how the job is
done and then I am available for questions. I am open to a zoom training
if needed, but the directions are pretty clear and none of our greeters
have ever needed more training. I let the greeters know that I will check
the email usually in the mornings between 7-9 a.m. EST. During that time
if a new member has been vetted, I will approve him/her. I will then send
an email to the greeter telling them that the member has been "subscribed".
and the greeter will introduce them to the group. Then I am done for the
day. Usually 5-10 minutes is all I need to do my job.
Serving on the SC has helped me tremendously grow in my program. I've
learned how to apply traditions and concepts as well.
Please feel free to email me if you have any questions about this
position.
Jennifer
