As an Al-Anon member who has never been involved on the level that many of you appear to have been, are, and will continue to be, I'm still not quite sure where I stand on the issue of whether or not to send a rep to the convention in Pittsburg. I'm overwhelmed with all the information provided and in my typical fashion, everything I read seems to makes sense so of course my view changes with each email!!!! As a person with the disease of alanonism, however, I am very familiar with taking things personally and the ability to get my point across in a manner that I call "sideways." So...on that note, here is my opinion. Even with all the information provided I don't feel I understand the inner workings enough to make a decision on whether or not to send someone to the convention so therefore I do not believe we should do so. Besides, we are an international group here and I do believe the costs could get prohibitive sending someone halfway across the world. I will probably abstain on voting on that until I feel more comfortable in my knowledge. Secondly, it is apparent we are having a difficult time gaining the attention of the WSO so I think our focus (excluding sending someone to the convention) should be figuring out exactly how we are going to get some attention on a very grassroots level. Start at the beginning and "regroup." It is clear that many of you feel strongly about the issue. Principles before personalities. Love and hugs,Kathy
