Once again - My personal opinion is that we not send someone to the convention in Pittsburgh. If we were sending a representative someplace a Regional Service Seminar would be more beneficial. If there are no specific meeting set up what would the purpose be of sending someone?
Personally I know of 3 people who are part of this business meeting who are attending the International Convention - we already have representatives. I think that we should be encouraging our membership to attend the conference and to have a showing there by participating in the parade of nations and I am more than wiling to co-ordinate it.
There has been mention of WSO staff being paid to work at the convention.. WSO staff work very hard at these conventions and there are only a very few that do go there to work- If they are not working there they have to pay their own way- When they work there they work long hours. The trustees who are working there also have their way paid and again they also work long hours and are expected to attend different events. It is not vacation for them.
Mention was also made of our service manual and all the changes made in it through the years - the inference that I read is that WSO was changing the service manual wily nilly--- WSO does not change the service manual- any changes have to be approved by the World Service Conference.
I for one found ASP through the WSO website. I was referred to it by a past delegate - At all of our assemblies on-line meetings were recommended. I don't recall the exact questions that I had to complete in order to join ASP but I don't believe that they're is one that asks if you found Al-Anon through the WSO website.
The results are in for the newcomer packets and as a result we really do not have any extra $ in order to send someone anyplace.
