Hi Emee and All,
I am not sure why we have percentages rather than numbers this time, perhaps Anne can answer that question. The reason it does not add to 100% (and this is my best guess at this point) is because at least one person did not vote - yes, no, abstain - it happens. Yes we have 20 voting members of ASP.
Regarding the types of motions:
a. Housekeeping motions require a simple majority. Housekeeping motions can be defined as: Minor changes to the meeting that do not affect the majority of the membership. This would include the Newcomers Packets. The reason that they would fall into this category is because the decision to send them out does not impact the majority of the membership.
b. Most motions would require a 2/3 majority to achieve substantial majority. Substantive changes to the meeting, those that would affect the majority of the membership require a 2/3 majority of voting members. None of these on the agenda!
c. Controversial motions which would also make significant changes to the meeting require a 3/4 majority. Things that would fall into this category would be changes to the Core Policies. Again, none of these on the agenda!
If you keep these three things in mind then we do not need to make more work for the Web Master by listing what type of motion we are voting on. If it is something that requires a 2/3 or 3/4 majority, the Chairperson will let the meeting know when the discussion starts. There won't be any surprises.
Voting is a personal issue. If someone chooses, for whatever reason, not to vote either yes, no or abstain, we cannot make them. It is up to each person to decide what they are going to do.
I think I answered all the questions asked.
Love and Serenity,
Dawn
