Like many folks, I thought I was unique when I got to Al-Anon.  I thought
the weird stuff that happened in my family didn't happen in other peoples
families.  Well, in Al-Anon I learned that what happened in my family
happened in many families.  The corollary to that is that what happened in
Al-Anon in my group, district and Area also happened in other groups,
districts and Areas.  I've selected a few excerpts of what happened in my
Area from 1997 to 1999 as an example of what I've seen happen in Al-Anon.

When I was Area treasurer 1997-1999, I found myself paying for things that I
didn't agree with.  But, as the Treasurer it was my job to support the group
conscience even if I thought it was wrong.  I've listed a few of those
expenses below.  I've left off the little things like steak & lobster
dinners and all the dinners for the entire Area committee the night before
the Area meeting every quarter because I don't have a way of separating that
expense from the other travel expenses for the Area Committee.  Total travel
expenses for the Area Committee to ONLY the quarterly meetings was
$15,009.13.
