In my experience, F2F, service positions were set up to be  
manageable.  Some positions are suggested to be a 3 year term.  Not  
that it is a harder position, it is a three year commitment to  
recovery through Al-Anon's 3rd legacy, service.  In the beginning  
everything seemed unmanageable to me.  I wanted serenity but had few  
tools and no trust of a HP outside the meeting room.  When I found  
myself at my first Assembly it was not like I expected.  It was  
uncomfortable, members voiced different opinions and not always  
calmly.  I sat quiet and wanted to be anywhere except here.  On the  
way home when I expressed my discomfort my sponsor actually pulled  
the car off the road and said, "We work together the best we can.    
None of us are recovered, Kim."

I have learned when my service is unmanageable it is about me.  I've  
learned more about myself sitting in an Al-Anon business meeting then  
anywhere else.  For the newcomers it is the safest place to grow.  It  
is not pain free.  Recovery takes courage.  I still want serenity and  
can honestly say, I have grown that most of the time even in a  
business meeting I have it.  I've learned first hand about principles  
over personalities.  Not much is personal around Al-Anon tables,  
business ones too.  I have learned about unfolding and letting go.   
I've seen the faces of hurt people smiling because they were a tiny  
piece of something much bigger.  I am one of them.

Let's remember this is about recovery.

On-line groups are very new to the Al-Anon fellowship.  It is a learn  
from where we are situation.  Our World Service Conference discusses  
situations that stem from problem on-line groups are experiencing.   
New suggestions about Anonymity have been made to the fellowship  
because of these discussions.

1.  I suggest a short term task force team to look at the on-line  
service position descriptions.  They can discuss, explore and then  
report findings back to the group within an agreed upon time frame.
2.  A temporary LA may need to be considered and if necessary assigned.

I'm willing to work on this team.
