Biz-Pals,

A couple of thoughts:

1) Since we are using Knowledge-Based Decision Making

and we as yet do not have a concensus on AA service

in ASP, how is it that we can close the discussion?

KBDM says to continue discussion until a concensus

is reached with-unanimous agreement as the goal, or

dropping the topic altogether. It is inappropriate

under KBDM to make a motion unless a near-concensus

   is in the offing.

May I suggest that rather than focusing on the exact

language suggested by the Steering Committee that we

attempt to work toward language we CAN agree on?

Are there other moves we could take that would make

AA service in some of the officer positions more

palatable? [If we moved the $1,301.00 Prudent Reserve

out of the Treasurer's control to an account managed

by the List Administrator leaving the balance in the

Treasury Account as a possible example.]

2) I do not see this whole AA service in Al-Anon as

many others do. I've read Bill W.'s stuff on Recovery

in Akron. He was of the opinion that AA's can recover

from the full effects of an alcoholic life in AA, not

just from the drinking. They can learn to live. Those who

also are deeply affected by another drinker do belong in

Al-Anon, but it will forever be their secondary program.

No big news there, but when there are plenty of service

opportunities within that separate fellowship I begin to

wonder what's up. I know darn well that there are drunks

in need of 12th Step calls every darn day. In keeping with

Al-Anon's co-operation with AA I see nothing wrong with

recognizing that an alcoholic's service to Al-Anon may

be acting against AA's primary purpose.

Now, all that said the other members of the Steering Committee

know that I have made arguments for further inclusion at some

levels. If we can get on with offering alternative suggestions

and ways to come to terms with this question, then let's do it.

If all I'm going to hear is that members of AA have a right to

serve fully in Al-Anon/ASP because this is 2010, not 1955, then

we may as well move on to another topic.
