Greeting ASP Members,
I want to thank Jerry for the volunteer description of Treasurer. I would like to take this time to share my ESH regarding how I came to be a Daily Chairperson followed by Secretary. Each time I was approached by a member from ASP regarding both these positions. The latter I was approached by my sponsor. Each time I was approached, my first thought was, "I cannot do this, I don't know how." But I learned that being of service in our program is as important as working the steps. What I have learned from being of service were from situations that I did not expect, yet I had to handle. I learned about diplomacy, I learned how to establish boundaries in a professional setting, I learned how to slow down my reactions and think scenarios through, I learned how to seek council when needed and I learned that I certainly don't know it all.
The point I am trying to make is that I learned that through being of service I have expanded my tool box and am able to practice using those tools in a setting as gentle and kind as ASP. Then I found I was able to use what I learned out in my work environments.
The benefits of being of service go way beyond the "walls" of ASP. Granted, we need members to be of service in order to keep ASP running, timely and efficient and the existence of ASP is dependent on our members serving.
With that being said, I highly encourage those of you in the business meeting to consider offering your services for Treasurer. Please seriously consider this - what you offer, you will also receive.
Regards,
Jennifer
ASP Secretary
