Biz-Pals,
It is true that when I took on the role as ASP Treasurer
there were some "bumps." Coming form my service positions
where trusted servants had some autonomy in making decisions
about how to do their jobs, it took a few months to adjust
to having to do things as determined by others. That and
I was scrambling to keep up with my then elementary computer
skills.
Looking back it makes sense for the most part now - at the
time (and at that point in my recovery) just about everything
felt controlling except the freedom of thought I was experiencing
in Al-Anon. I have since developed into the sparkling, cheerful
personality that I now am :-)
Okay, what to add? Firstly, ASP's Business Meeting has never
agreed to set aside $500.00 for Incorporation. Having the
Treasurer deciding to set aside this money without Group
Conscience approval is similar to my autonomous decision
to follow my view of Al-Anon Principles and send a donation
to the WSO without getting a specific ASP directive to do so.
So, in my mind and until the B.M. votes to fund incorporation
as an item in a budget, we are indeed holding nearly $1000
in our Excess Funds. This would be easily remedied through
discussion and vote.
Next, and last because I know some of you folks are tired of me,
whatever the OLA-IS is or is not doing, it remains, now, under
the wing of the WSO (unless something has changed since I/we
last researched this) and as such cannot be a recipient of Al-Anon
group donations. Earmarking funds is not permissible - see Service
Manual under "Earmarking Funds."
I'm sorry we've lost a good Al-Anon to what some call rancor here.
Good, honest, and fervent discussion is not the norm for those of
us affected by alcoholism. A big thank-you to those "rookies" here
who voiced appreciation for this forum. You reaffirm that growth
in our family continues.
Hugs,
Jerry
