[Businessmtg] Over prudent reserve - Treasurer's note

Thank you Anne, for this good summary of current status.

So, as are working with $400 to decide what to do with, my feeling is to
send 1/2 of this to WSO.

I believe the remaining $200 should be set aside to fund the Literature
initiative that we are able to follow through on now that we have a fully
loaded Steering Committee and the manpower to facilitate that initiative.

By sending the remaining $200 to WSO, I believe we will be satisfying our
obligation to WSO. Frankly, I am in the camp that does not 'see' the WSO
doing much for online groups. There is a large gap between what they 'say'
they do in writing, and what actually happens in action. As far as I have
seen, we receive a yearly letter from them asking us to sign in order to
have permission to quote CAL. Other than that - there is no involvement or
ocmmunication that I have seen or heard. I would like more tangible evidence
of what WSO actually DOES for online groups before I feel 'good' about
blindly turning over all prudent reserves to them.

I also feel that it would be helpful to reach out to other online groups to
see what they do as a 'practice', how the WSO helps them and see where ASP
falls in line with what other groups experience. With a fully manned SC,
this is something more feasible in terms of time and effort required.

Many Business Meeting participants have stated that they have discontinued
sending contributions to ASP because they are aware of the excess PR, and
also have questioned the status of Newcomer's Packets, incorporation etc.
And that is certainly a legitimate choice to make and not subject to any
challenge.

In that same vein however, I believe ASP should be cautious about how much
WE 'contribute' to OUR 'larger organization' when we too have doubts about
what WSO is truly doing for 'us' and online meetings in general. I am
fairly certain WSO is not 'missing' our little $400 pot of excess funds. At
least we know where it is and how it is being used nor not used

Obviously the consensus rules, but my motion is to send $200 to WSO to
satisfy at least a minimum committment until we can do the research and
understand more fully what the WSO can do for us if we push a bit.

Thanks all,
Cyndi
