Hi everyone,

Thank you for your participation in this very important aspect of ASP.
As the outgoing List Administrator, I thought I would share some general
thoughts about this role.

The term for this position begins on November 1st, and will serve for 3
years. Holding the election now will ensure that there is ample time for
orientation to the role, having a few months (hopefully!) to observe the
different aspects of the role.

Here is a guideline of the time aspect of this position:

Daily: Log in to the LA email a minimum of once a day. Personally, I log
in in the morning, during lunch hour, and sometimes in the evening if
there are ongoing matters to resolve. More activity will happen during
Business meetings, or during ad-hoc Steering Committee discussions on
topics as they come up.

Subscribe new members to the ASP server, via communication with the ASP
Greeters. (approx. 5-10 minutes per day, depending on volume)

Respond to members questions or concerns regarding policy and practice.
This activity is minimal unless there is a particular issue that has
come up during a meeting, to which extra communication is required,
along with consultation with the SC members. I would say maybe 5 emails
a week for member communication.

Every 6 months: Create new greeter email accounts, subscribe them to the
server, communicate account info to each greeter. (about 1 hour of time
total). Also create Daily Chair email accounts at each 6 month rotation.

In three years, I have never had to spend more than an hour in any day
tending to ASP business. I would say 30 minutes spread through the day
is the high side of 'normal'. (once acclimated to the role - initially,
time spent will be understandably higher) There are days where I spend
just 10 minutes checking in on quick tasks. It ebbs and flows.

Technical administration (subscribing new members, creating email
accounts) falls within the 30 minute daily time. The technical side of
this role is not difficult, and easy to learn, requires just basic
computer navigation knowledge which most people who are participating in
an email list serv will have. However, when there are server issues or
other technical troubleshooting required, more time will be required to
ensure resolution and communication to the members. This is rare, but it
does happen as you all know! Our support provider, Eso-soft, is a
valuable asset to ASP and I have had nothing but positive experience in
communication with them. This is ASP money well-spent!

Annually: There are WSO administrative items to handle, such as
maintaining our email meeting 'license', updating relevant contact
information etc. This is also a minimal time commitment.

In closing, I would say that being the List Administrator for ASP has
been one of the MOST valuable and meaningful aspects of my recovery. I
have learned to navigate interpersonal communication with grace,
fairness, and calm - especially when policy or Concepts and Traditions
came into play. Any time a member contacted me with a concern or
question, I always called upon my 'tools', the Traditions or Concepts,
slogans etc. in order to most effectively and NEUTRALLY handle a
conflict or someone's personal matter regarding our meeting. Whether I
was managing something related to the ASP meeting, or working with the
wonderful Steering Committee members - I learned through practicing the
Traditions and Concepts of Al-Anon, and I believe I successfully
navigated every task, issue or challenge that came my way. The SC
functions as a team, and I appreciated the collective knowledge and
experience of all SC members to assist and guide me as needed. I had
three years of Al-Anon when I took on this role, and doing this type of
service really shifted my own recovery into high gear, more so than
would have occurred otherwise. I am truly so grateful for this time of
service. I highly encourage anyone who is qualified to consider this
very important service.

Thanks for your time! Please feel free to ask questions.

Hugs,

Cyndi
