In following suit with Cyndi's explanation of the List Administrator's
role and time commitment, I thought I'd chime in with what being Greeter
Chair looks like as well.

The role of Greeter Chair is defined as:

- *Greeter Chairperson *
       - Chairs the Greeter Committee
          - Appoints Greeters
          - Instructs/trains Greeters
          - Oversees greeting process
       - Alternate List Administrator #2 and member of the Steering
Committee

In the nearly three years that I've performed this function I've never
spent more than an half an hour on any given day performing these
duties. Every six months our greeters rotate out and it is the chair's
responsiblity to post to the recovery meeting a call to volunteer. The
chair then forms the greeter team and oversees the training and
instruction for the new greeters. The chair also oversees the greeting
process by daily checking of emails to ensure none are lost in the
cracks. On average, I respond to maybe one question a week and
primarily am simply available for any complex situations or to help
clarify policy if need be. I typically check my email once a day
although if there is a Business Meeting or ongoing Steering Committee
discussion, I attempt to check 2-3 times a day. On average, I might
spend 10 minutes per day reviewing emails and possibly answering
questions or participating in Steering Committee discussion. While my
position doesn't rotate out until the beginning of the year, it will be
incredibly helpful for the incumbent to spend a couple of months
piggy-backing and seeing what this process looks like.

Like Cyndi, being a part of the Steering Committee in my role as Greeter
Chair has pushed me along in my own recovery. I too, have learned how
to respond rather than react, to communicate with grace rather than just
gut instinct, and to utilize our steps, slogans, and traditions in
almost all of my affairs. I can honestly say that I'm not sure I would
have come so far in my own recovery without having been a part of this
committee which required my participation and never allowed me to take
the easy way out :).

If I can answer any questions, please don't hesitate to ask.

Warm regards,

--
