Thanks Steve, 

As always, you have provided us with much food for thought.   And good
thoughts as well!

I remember now why a chat room or forum was never pursued. And,  I
personally am not in favor of prohibiting, limiting or redirecting OT
shares, I hadn't noticed an unusual number but my schedule recently has kept
me away from ASP more than I like!

I am still in favor of a newcomers/beginners meeting, it can be hard to get
the lay of the land and as someone shared earlier, those early days can be
filled with pain, reading a lot of dense and static content may not be a
priority for them.  Honestly I don't know what a beginners meeting would
look like.  I think it could be modeled after what some F2F groups offer, an
interactive discussion about the meeting format perhaps.  Additional
thoughts are this:

It is another service position that might fall to the Greeters, with the
Greeter Chair providing some sort of oversight.  I know that this can be
tricky, for the first time that I can remember filling the greeter roles has
been difficult this year.  Not really sure why.  I did it for a year and
never found that the time commitment was overwhelming.

The "meeting" might be something as simple as getting the newcomer focused
on the content of the "letters" they receive when they are in the process of
getting added to the server and welcomed to the group.   That focus might be
a set of questions the greeter asks about the contents of those materials.
I only had a few new members ask me questions in the year that I greeted
them, I would have been happy to do more.
