Hi Everyone,

My Experience:
The amount of emails were surprising.  I chose to delete everything that was not the day’s topic.  It did take me a while to go through the email subjects to find leads.  It was helpful to have Lead/Chair in the Subject line with topic.  The day of the week was secondary.     

I began in f2f meetings.  After my first meetings I had questions and didn’t know who to ask or if it was okay to ask.  The greeter is who felt the safest to ask and eventually I did.   

Today, as a greeter in a f2f meeting, I greet newcomers as they come in and give them a newcomer packet.  I introduce them to the group.  I let them know if they want to share it is okay.  We all were newcomers once and we understand their feelings.  Usually at the end of the meeting, I’ll show them my name on the phone list in their packet.  I tell them it’s an Al-Anon tool and in between meetings if you have questions or need to talk I encourage you to use it.    Everyone on the list is willing to listen.  If you leave a message, let them know you are a newcomer reaching out.  I tell them, now you are not alone and to come back.  If they leave a phone number, I try to reach out sometime during the 1st week.  Many times I will see them in another meeting and ask how it's going?          

Suggestion:
Perhaps the greeter could reach out a couple days later to see how its going and offer suggestions to an already overwhelmed member.  Some just need direction and very willing to take it.
