I like the idea of a smaller newcomer meeting attended by 2 or 3 members who understand our spiritual principles.  Perhaps with a rotating topic format like suggested In Al-Anon guidelines G-2.  

The one I attended encouraged questions.  We also were invited to stay for the regular meeting that followed.

My district offers a registered Monday and Wednesday beginners meeting. The format is Step 1, discussion, Step 2, discussion, Step 3, discussion
The discussion topics are One Day at a Time and Easy Does It, detachment, Serenity Prayer, Just for Today, anonymity, Sponsorship and Service.
