[Businessmtg] Business Meeting: Agenda item 2 OT's

Hi,

I wanted to address Kristin's concerns about this agenda item, because she
makes some really good points.

First of all, this is a discussion only, and is meant to do the initial
exploratory discussion to see if this is something we want to take up at a
future business meeting. We may have a motion at the end of this to
continue discussing it at the next business meeting, or to move it forward,
but there is not a pre-made motion on the floor right now, it's discussion
only.

Kristin is right - this is a major change, and if we decide as a business
meeting that we want to pursue it, then we will launch into the sequence
over the 5 months and more. And I add that "and more" because there would
be a lot of moving parts in doing this as Kristin pointed out.

This agenda item was added as an idea that came up at a prior business
meeting item where we looked at limiting the OT shares. We decided, as a
business meeting, not to take action on OTs then. There was no motion to
disallow OT shares, nor was there a motion to continue to allow OT shares,
so we didn't vote on it. We reached a consensus that we would not take
action. Jane felt that we needed to discuss a separate meeting, and so it
is on the agenda.

(I hope I am explaining this well...if someone wants to jump in and make it
clearer, please feel free!)

So, if we discuss this, and it becomes apparent that the consensus of the
business meeting is to explore an OT/Newcomers meeting, then we will take
the next steps.

But it is not something that can be decided now, or in the next business
meeting.
