Hi Anne et al,
FWIW this is what I think.
I was wondering if this is a decision that was a forced solution based on
the comment that Jennifer made and that Jerry made.
Jennifer’s comment made it seem like it was an emergency, to me, my
opinion. And this was my response. Principle here, an emergency on someone
else’s part does not constitute an emergency on my part.
Jerry’s comment “ The way I see it either qualified members stand for the
Service position, or the group suffers the consequences of not being fully
welcoming to prospective new comers. “
And then after that he said “asking other trusted servants to add to their
duties to cover for the groups on willingness to support itself, would be,
in my mind, no different than asking just a few members to support it
financially. “
At this moment in time our group is fully functioning, despite the greeter
chair position being empty. Fact, not a feeling. We do the best we can at
any given time. All of us.
My question is, is this a decision you chose because you want to “fix “it
now? A sense of urgency? And by leaving another position vacant is this
going to fix the problem? Borrow from Peter to pay Paul?
The burden needs to be on the group, not one person. And when someone is
touched and or moved by HP to step up, the position will be filled, not by
my or anyone else’s will.
It has been said many many times before by Steve that sometimes there are
and have been vacancies in the past that were not filled and sometimes they
do not get filled right away. And that it is OK so that we have and
continue to have a healthy meeting. Not quoting exactly.
If we are not healthy as a whole practicing/demonstrating all of our Alanon
principles in all of our affairs there won’t be healthy meeting to come to.
Just my thoughts.
Beverly
