Hi bm ASPers....
I think one of the problems associated with this position is that the term may be too long.....what if we took it down to a 1 year or 2 year term at most. It is probably time to look at the job requirements for treasurer and see what we can do in the bm to make it easier to our membership, instead of allowing the roadblocks that remain in place...Time for the bm members to weigh in on this and for the sc to help us get stuff in place to make it happen.
Secondly, the fact that the current treasurer is limited by what she can see and do with the old acct (as she does not get the financial statements and is dependent on them being forwarded or have to access the old acct as treasurer because of sigs etc, ) may also be a problem. Why can't the address on the statements be changed and permissions be set to the incumbent? This does not make any sense, does it ? Why are new signature cards not on file for the current treasurer to do their job? Surely, an address change for the mailing of the statements should not be an issue, yet it is... I do not know about anyone else in this meeting but, if i had to wait on people forwarding documents to me that are a part of the trusted servant position i am doing, i would feel as though i could not do my job..where is the trust i am suppose to have to do this job if i can't or don't have access to what i need to do it properly?
Lastly, I believe it is time to reevaluate the duties, time required for this position and most importantly, the ability to have access to the documents and permissions needed to do the job lined up so that it could be done properly. If asp is incorporated, we will be facing other issues as well.... It means making sure that ALL the responsibilities for doing the job lie with one person, not individuals that are no longer serving in the position or were past trusted servants with stuff still listed in their name....time to fix the problem and maybe someone will step up. Until that is fixed, I would not want to be responsible for any position in any organization regardless of who or what they represent. That means the steering committee needs to stay clear of the way the job is being done unless or until they can fix it.......while we do not govern, we do tend to get into each others way at times....it leads to double-headed management and that is not good either.
I serve as secretary/chair of my f2f group. That keeps me busy and I am on a one year term. Until that ends, i do not expect others to do my job, but when i need help, i can ask for it and i do. It would seem to me that those of us who step up, regardless of what capacity we step up in, support our groups with the trust and ability to do it the best way we can. It should be the same with the treasurer position. We all know we need a new treasurer, and we know that she has limited time left to help us. Once she is done, we are in trouble in that we have no 7th tradition in place if no one steps up. Maybe if we show some movement towards getting rid of the roadblocks associated with the position of treasurer someone will step up....Also, why do we not put these positions out to the general membership just like we do for the daily chairs...it makes no sense to have so many asp members online in the membership, but to not open up the trusted servant positions to those members as well....why do we limit this to the bm attendees only ? With all the people in this group, there are probably some out there that would have the time and ability to do the job who may want to do service....Seems unfair to me to exclude the entire online membership on these positions.
Thank you Jennifer for hanging in there with us....we appreciate you. If you got this far and have thoughts please share them with the entire bm, not just me. It is important for all to see the traffic regarding this. Thanks for reading.
Hugggsss,
Karen C
