Hi all.
When I joined ASP a long time ago, or so it feels....
I had no one really to tell me any part of the process. How it works here.
And luckily I also attended a f2f, so I had a newcomers welcome.
I remember well how much I needed some sort of guidance on whatever Al-Anon
really meant...
and how a meeting occurred, the ins and outs of sponsorship, and all that.
I believe we could do more.
A step One meeting every few weeks, or once a week, I dont know,,,, might
be an awesome welcome.
OR maybe just a place for question and answer, like a f2f newcomers meeting.
---
I definitely could have used this back then.
I have responded to many a new person here and this is what I have received
back from many;
"thank you so much for responding to me. I have not received ONE email in
response to my questions here... and I am grateful you wrote me. I am
confused about a lot, can you give me a few guidelines?"
Ya.
ONE person out of 1000's responded to a newcomer.
Should not be this way.
shouda coulda woulda---not words I like using,,, but seem appropriate on
this matter.
But I am just as at fault, as I don't response to every newcomer either.
but after today, and Jerry's comments, I think I will try harder to do so.
As it seems like we are "cold" online.
In f2f, it is a warm welcome.
Every time.
Every meeting.
With a packet a new person can hold, read at home, underline, highlight,
with phone numbers of members willing to take a phone call or text... etc.
And why can't it be like that here? A little more like that?
The Internet is never going to be anything like f2f obviously, but we, I,
can make a bigger impact with a short email answering a few questions, or
being part of a weekly newcomer meeting. A list of willing Al-Anoner's
emails, who are available 1 on 1 to chat with someone who needs to ask more
detailed questions?!?
Curious why we can't do this.
ok. I am done talking.
Thanks.
Alison
