Hi, buisness people. Something newbies say and I repeat right now. I don't know if I'm doing this right so.... Forgive me if this is wrong.
I don't know much about ASP buisness and how all this shit works but I want to touch base and toss in my two cents (hard to do, Canada has no penny), anyway... We were all once new and it was not long ago for me. I once heard a piece of wisdom and it was : for Sponsership to work the sponser can only be as willing as the sponsee wishes to be (or something like that) but the point of that is,that ASP can only work for the newcomer as much as the newcomer wants to work it. I didn't come here with much tech savvy kinda crap but I made it work for me as best I could because... It was all I had and I wanted it. I've made some friends, some are still faceless, others are not. I heard ESH, I've even gotten to hear voices, laughter, and even once teared up on a telephone call. I'm unsure what you all are looking to accomplish through committees or even what kind of ideas your looking for. I remember it being suggested that I get an email specific for ASP because it can be an overwhelming amount of emails (I've noticed that be a complaint of new people as well). I had no large difficulties with that, I just make sure I keep up. They say "keep it simple", but dammit, life is complicated, especially when living with an active A. Most times people (me included), are looking for an easy fix and looking to hide. What's easiest? sneaking out of the house, desparetly seeking a F2f meeting you don't know how to get to,and god forbid someone sees you or you see someone you know. or searching the web for assistance and grabbing onto ASP to see what happens? I've taken this "easier" route, it works to a degree, drags on, can "work if you work it" type thing. I'm also well aware of how difficult it can be to get to live meetings, it's tough out here in rural areas, and again life is complicated on a day by day basis for people. It's also fairly simple to get onto ASP, learn the procedures and dive right in. I do understand the desire to help other people and try to help guide them, much like AA only works for a fraction of people the same must be true for AlAnon and even less through online only. I'm far from good, understand only a fraction of what may be ahead and I've worked goddam hard for this. Just being as far involved as I am is overwhelming a lot of days. Chairing on Thursdays, keeping up with weekly homework assigned by my sponser, listening to YouTube speakers, and desparetly trying to attend one f2f meeting a week runs me pretty hard. Perhaps staging people in slowly could somehow work. Being new, slogans, the first three steps and maybe a couple chairs choice type things would work. Traditions, concepts, stuff like that are too....uhhhhm, well they're just dull (srry, my opinion). Maybe if ASP had a few email addresses to share into, breaking things into smaller groups somehow. Newcomers would get less emails, and learn the basics of slogans, steps, and sharing. Anyway, I think on this some more. I guess the root of all this is: ASP will work for the newcomer as much as the newcomer wants it to work for them. Sincerely Pernel
