[Businessmtg] Archiving thoughts

Hi friends,

So far, I've learned:

--Archiving of ASP shares started in 2006 was not started in direction of a Group Conscience.
--A former administrator simply selected "yes" instead of "no" in a set up procedure and it can continue or be stopped any time.
--Members do not have an option to opt out.
--Archiving of ASP shares has not become a burdensome data load on the servers.
--It automatically happens as a software function so there is no effort on any trusted servant.

It's my opinion that archiving of shares in this electronic forum is a neutral activity: I don't find it either wrong or right. People write on topics as they see fit at the time. Only archiving some of the shares would not represent reality, and I do not recommend it.

I think because of my perception of the neutral nature of the present situation, it's unnecessary to bring up a group conscience on the subject.

Should one day:
--some current member object,
--a law somewhere in the world limit the amount or type of data ASP servers hold in archive, or
--the data load becomes burdensome,

I think the topic should be brought up so Business Members can come to an idea if it is a Group Conscience topic or if it should be decided by the Steering Committee or even the List Administrator.

If none of these things are happening, I find the archiving a neutral activity.

Thanks for listening,
Karen P
