[Businessmtg] Web Site Approval Notes

Hi folks,

The objective of approving the ASP web site is quite simple: Establish a new line in the sand where the membership agrees that the web site is a fair and accurate representation of ASP's policies, procedures and group consciences AT THIS POINT IN TIME. Jerry already explained the gist of how things got haywire, so there is no need for me to address that.

We are NOT attempting to make changes to ANY established policy, procedure or group conscience. To the best of my knowledge, everything on the current website is accurate.

If the membership feels that changes need to be made, then we can address those issues in the future.

Now to address some of the questions that have come up.

1. The Founding Policies of A Serenity Place.

Please understand and accept that "The Founding Policies of A Serenity Place" are what they are, typos and everything. Congratulations to Linda F. for being the first person that I know of to notice the misspelling of "group conscience". However, making ANY change whatsoever to The Founding Policies of A Serenity Place requires a 75% affirmative vote of the entire membership of ASP. As of this afternoon, there are 1,969 members registered in ASP. In other words, it would require that 1,477 members would have to respond and vote for ANY change to The Founding Policies of A Serenity Place. Yes, this includes fixing typos.

2. How to interpret "No flaming"?

May I suggest that members think of "No flaming" in the same way they'd interpret a "No Smoking" sign? Don't do it. Again, how this is worded in The Founding Policies of A Serenity Place is, for all practical purposes, cast in granite.

3. The ASP Service Structure.

For the first ten years of ASP's history, I was the List Owner and ASP ran on my personal server. I convened an extended business meeting in the Fall of 2005 for the purpose of transferring ownership and operation of ASP to the members of ASP. Several group consciences came out of that meeting in early 2006. One of the more significant group consciences is known as Motion #4 that defines The ASP Service Structure since May 1, 2006, the effective date of the transfer.

The original web page that Motion #4 refers to can be found on the original ASP web site http://www.serenitysys.com/A_Serenity_Place/Business/nbm/structure.htm

The contents of that page are duplicated on the current ASP site http://asp-afg.org/members/motion-4/
Unfortunately, that page was created before we had the ability to use bulleted lists on our WordPress site. Perhaps our Web Master can update that page with bullets to resemble the original and make it easier to read.

As for finding or accessing the ASP Service Structure page? It is easy. Just scroll down the MENU LINKS on the right side of every page to the last item: "ASP Service Structure".

Questions? Please feel free to holler at me with any questions.

About the process . . . if there appears to be a consensus to accept the web site, then the Chair will note that and ask for a motion from the floor that reflects the apparent consensus.

Please, feel free to post comments but DO NOT MAKE A MOTION YET.

Thanks for listening.

Hugs,
Steve
