I think it is a great idea to lower the service requirements for ASP greeter to 6 months. I think at 6 months, a member should have an understanding about how Al-Anon and ASP work and be able to fulfill these tasks. 

I think we should also consider giving some credit for service in other Al-Anon F2F groups. I believe we miss out on the opportunity to have quality, qualified people serve in positions that need to be filled. ASP has its unique workings that need to be understood, but I believe that those workings can be absorbed in 6 months of ASP participation....especially by those who have service in other groups as group representatives to local and state Al-Anon organizations. By making service requirements for positions like the secretary and treasurer so stringent, the pool of possible applicants is severely restricted. By the time participants have met those restrictive requirements, they have already completed a lot of ASP service hours. In all of my years of being in Al-Anon I’ve not seen these types of restrictive requirements for Al-Anon service. I believe that these restrictions now work against keeping ASP a healthy organization because it puts too much of a burden on those who now must fill multiple positions.
