[Businessmtg] Greeter Chair Time Limits

Hi Business Meeting,

I think the greeter position has a expectation of 12 months in ASP for a
reason.  When I was greeted at my first face to face meeting, it was by
someone who could answer questions about Al-Anon.  I felt comforted by
their understanding of our great program. Had I been greeted by someone who
had very little Al-Anon experience and behaved like I did when I was a
newcomer (fixer, people-pleaser, perfectionist), I’m not sure I would have
gained the recovery I now have. Our greeters are the face of the Al-Anon
program and IMHO are more helpful to newcomers when they have some
recovery.

I think greeters at ASP and those setting up chairs and coffee at a face to
face meeting hold very different roles and for me cannot be compared.

I may be willing to change my position if the limit is reduced only for
those who have outside Al-Anon experience.

Jerry stated, “This problem could be as simple as lowering our standards,
but I don't think so.”  I agree that lowering our standards is not going to
solve the problem of members stepping up to serve.  I think more
conversation or brainstorming about the reasons members don’t step up or
considering solutions to this question could be helpful in the future.
