[Businessmtg] Question for Anne O.: response

Hi Sarah/All,

Sorry if I confused things, Jerry's email and mine passed each other at similar times.... I am stating my perspective here, not fact. I don't recall what happened or when. The website and the process were not in synch. I chose to follow past process instead of checking the website, I caught it this year after sending out my first recruitment email.

I know that there was a time that the greeters did have direct access to the server and it is possible, there wasn't a system of checks and balances in place at that time thus the need for 12 months. That would have been the genesis of the requirement. In 2006 when the list maintenance was turned over the ASP community, a vote was made to accept what was in place at that time - see Motion 4. Any changes from then on would go through a business meeting discussion and vote.

I am in favor of having this change to 6 months be reviewed and approved by the business meeting participants and then clearly documented. With the ASP and Al-Anon design what it is, we encourage turnover. With ASP service heavily balanced with admin overhead (NOT found in F2F) I am in favor of the "rules" that frustrate some. In my opinion we can't survive without them.

Not sure I have actually answered your question!

Hugs....

Anne

Subject: [Businessmtg] Question for Anne O.

Hi Anne,

You stated, “I believe since some time in 2012, the greeter chairs have been using 6 months as a minimum requirement in the recruitment emails to the meeting membership. I have a habit of not reinventing the wheel (and I can be a bit
lazy) and took an email sent by a prior chairperson to craft my own. I did not read the policy on the website when I started in my position last year and apparently several of us may not have done so.“

I’m not clear on exactly what this means.

Jerry asked, “it seems there was an administrative decision to elevate the service requirement [for greeter and topic chair] from six month's participation to one year. Could someone please relate the input/reasoning which prompted this change? I think it would help us understand why one year was chosen over six months.“

Anne, are you answering Jerry’s question or something else? Was this change of 6 months to 12 months a typo? An administrative decision? Or was there a group conscience to change it? I agree with Jerry that the answer to this question could help us further flush out this issue.

I do not agree however that this is an administrative decision to change from 12 months participation to 6 months, even if that was what was done previously. I think a group conscience is the Al-Anon way.

Hugs,
Sarah
