[Businessmtg] Service

Hello all. I have discussed service with my sponsor who recommends that I
am not ready for a service position at this time.

I have some rudimentary concerns about service in terms of practicing the
disease vs practicing program. In my own case, the reason I have these
concerns is due to my participation in the BM when I first joined ASP.

I watched first hand all of the manipulation, lying and control that went
on in this BM. The back stabbing of members. And I also participated in
trying to “fix” the situation. UGH! How scary is that for me, ha, the
peacemaker! My role in my Foo.

My purposes for saying this are two fold. One, to maintain I don’t qualify
yet, and two, that I do have concerns related to practicing the disease vs
practicing recovery. For myself.

I have been participating in recovery since my twenties. Am now in my
sixth decade. Just goes to show one doesn’t graduate from this program.

Just because I have a lot of recovery years does not mean that I don’t slip
also. I do. I just don’t fall back so hard like I used to, and the
important part is that I am able to recognize, have awareness of when I
need help. And I have the acceptance to seek out and receive help, if I
think, feel, or see I am not practicing my program to the best of my
ability. Something I myself look for in a leader and or Alanon group. I
like to follow guidelines because they help me stay within my Hulu hoop.

It is very important to feel safe within a group. There is a powerful
service structure here at ASP. The founders of this on line program put
the service structure in place, I believe, to thwart any efforts of control
ie: obtaining double headed management.

As a group, I think everyone sees how trying to get ahead by making others
look bad works. For me, I need to be able to get a long with others
without my opinion of them getting in the way. Regardless of whether I
“like” them, agree with them or not. How program/service works and is
helping me see beyond my myopic visual.

If there are people here who think it could work better, this way or that,
we have guidelines at ASP to follow to make changes.

Thank you for letting me share my POV.

Beverly
