[Businessmtg] Attraction rather than Promotion

Good Morning,
I believe that we are talking about attraction rather than promotion, and/or
NOT trying to force solutions. The requirements to serve were developed
when Steve turned the site over to the members. (Steve can correct me on
this if needed). Prior to 2006, I think he did everything and had a couple
of people help with the vetting and greeting of new members.
So with that said, with Steve's guidance the service structure was defined
by the business meeting. This was done with great thought and care but
without any real knowledge of what would work or not work. I believe that
this discussion should be open to thoughtful change that may span several
business meetings. Think of our Al-Anon saying: The definition of insanity
is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results. I
think we are there J
Addressing some of the thoughts floated already...
. The secretary and the greeter chair already interrupt the meeting
when recruiting for business meeting participants, meeting chairs and
greeters. They can still design the announcement but we may get more eyes
on the announcement if it is delivered by meeting chairs.
. Length of service is another item that could be considered too, I
am not sure how or when the 3 year commitment for Steering Committee
positions was established or why there is resistance to discussing this
change. Perhaps I am misreading what others have shared.
. Length of membership in ASP prior to serving, we chose 12 months
in 2006 for the two entry level service positions, Meeting Chair and
Greeter. What makes 12 months a better marker than 6 months or 8 months?
. The Steering Committee positions are primarily administrative, the
expectations for those positions needs to be re-examined. I believe we tell
people they can put as much or as little time in as they can and that they
will be supported by the members of the SC and BM while they serve.
Recently, it seems the Steering Committee is being held to a higher
standard. We need to be forgiving of mistakes made, this may help with
attraction.
Just my thoughts on this.
Hugs,
Anne
