Hello Business Meeting:
I am including my comments from the last discussion of this topic because I still believe what I said then. First, I
do have additional comments:

I believe Al-Anon encourages us to share responsibilities and not have one person be the wearer of many hats. As my own Al-Anon qualifier, that's one of the things that got me into trouble - trying to be all things to all people, and taking on more than was necessary - in some cases robbing others of the opportunity to take responsibility and to learn themselves. It became easy for them to sit back and let me carry the load.

I don't think the volume or time involved are as important as sharing responsibility and also in having someone able to pick up the baton for smooth transitioning if the worst were to happen.

One question I do have is the information that it is not necessary to read every email. I wonder what is in the unread emails? If I were a sender, I hope hope someone would take the time to open my email before just discarding - even if what I said wasn't of any use to the receiver. As this program says, we each have the right to be 'heard.' A committee could/would at least have a look?

And below are my thoughts expressed during the last discussion, which have not changed.
Hugs, Linda

Hi to all,
I have been digesting Anne's proposal for a few days, trying to consider the pros and cons and make somewhat contributing comment.
Frankly, I have not come up with any "cons" so I will continue with what I think are positives.

o First, unless something changes, I know for certain that our ASP founder is not going to live forever. Our founder, Lois, left us a wonderful legacy in our recovery program. Following the Traditions of Al-Anon, her legacy has continued for generations. She recognized she could not do it or keep it going alone.

o Secondly, I think if we keep the Traditions in mind, Anne's proposal works.
We have but one purpose -
There is but one authority, our HP
Shared responsibility
Etc

o Taking the Greeter example Anne used a little further - As a Greeter, I am not the authority and I am sharing responsibility and am doing service. However, having a trusted servant to head the committee gives me guidance, maintains continuity, helps me troubleshoot, helps me with my errors, keeps me focused and on track, shares what works and what doesn't work, supports me - all the things we receive from each other in our meetings. There is no judgment or criticism and we have a common goal. Still, to help family and friends of alcoholics.
Keeping balance.

o I did serve on the Steering Committee for one term and I will tell you honestly, that it was a title only. When my term was up, I still didn't know what my purpose was. Perhaps that has changed. In comparison, serving on the Greeter committee, my purpose is clearly defined, I feel like I'm being of service, and is very gratifying. (I realize my personal gratification is not the goal or the issue, but it is a side benefit for me. lol)

Bottom line, I support Anne's proposal, I believe it could work well, and I believe it is worth at least trying.
Nothing changes if nothing changes.

Hugs, Linda
